Folic Acid helps to combat heart disease

Folic acid (vitamin B9), together with vitamin B12, is necessary to form red blood cells. The form of folic acid occurring naturally in food is called ‘folate’. Folate is found naturally in a wide variety of foods and is also present in foods fortified with folic acid. Deficiency of folic acid can cause a type of anaemia (reduced oxygen-carrying ability of red blood cells) called ‘macrocytic’ (large cell) anaemia. Both vitamins together also help nerves to function properly are also essential for the formation of DNA (genetic material) allowing each cell to replicate perfectly.

Vitamin B12 Deficiency Linked to Depression

Vitamin B supplements may help people to fight depression, research suggests.   The B-complex vitamins are essential to mental and emotional well-being,  Vitamin B-12 and other B vitamins play a role in producing brain chemicals that affect mood and other brain functions. They cannot be stored in our bodies, so we depend entirely on our daily diet to supply them. B vitamins are destroyed by alcohol, refined sugars, nicotine, and caffeine so it is no surprise that many people may be deficient in these.

Noni – SUPER IMMUNITY FOOD

Noni is a commonly used name for Morinda Citrifolia which is a small evergreen tree that grows throughout the tropical areas of the Pacific Ocean. Polynesian people have long used Morinda Citrifolia for a wide range of traditional remedies to relieve diarrhea, urinary problems and infections as well as a topical preparation for joint pain, wounds and various skin conditions.

According to Dr. Ralph Heinickie who found out that Morinda Citrifolia fruit is a rich resource of large molecules called ‘Proxeronine’ (Pro-zair-o-neen), and Dr. Ray Sahelian, a physician who specialises in natural supplements, Noni can stimulate the immune system and be effective for treating chronic fatigue syndrome and many other diseases of age from arthritis, cancer and diabetes to strokes, heart failure and Alzheimers.

Vitamin D helps combat age-related eye disease

Recent research, published in the journal Neurobiology of Ageing, suggests that Vitamin D supplements may help combat the effects of age-related eye disease, such as macular degeneration (AMD). Lead researcher Professor Glen Jeffery, from the Institute of Opthalmology at University College London, explains that the blood vessels supplying the retina can become inflamed and accumulate debris as we age. This can result in a decline of up to 30 per cent in the numbers of light receptive cells in the eye by the time we are 70.

Benefits of Vitamin D for Healthy Bones

Vitamin D is a hormone that helps regulate calcium levels – The body needs vitamin D to absorb calcium. Without enough vitamin D, one can’t form enough of the hormone calcitriol (known as the “active vitamin D”). This in turn leads to insufficient calcium absorption from the diet. In this situation, the body must take calcium from its stores in the skeleton, which weakens existing bone and prevents the formation of strong, new bone.

Calcium and Our Parathyroid Glands

parathyroid-glands

Parathyroid glands are small glands of the endocrine system which are located in the neck behind the thyroid.Parathyroid glands control the calcium in our bodies–how much calcium is in our bones, and how much calcium is in our blood. Calcium is the most important element in our bodies (we use it to control many systems), so calcium is regulated very carefully. Parathyroid glands control the calcium.
